Lisciano Niccone is located on Mount Castiglione, at a short distance from the town of Umbertide, and extends to the right part of the Niccone stream valley. Of ancient origins, it is a town of great historical and environmental interest, it was considered of great importance for its placement as it was one of the defensive bastions that controlled the traffic in the communication routes between Rome and Ravenna. In the Village, the ruins of the XIth century castle are still visible. Lisciano Niccone was inhabited by the Etruscan people, whose presence is documented by the existence of the Hypogeum in the locality of Villa Sagraia and the fortified village of Bellona, on Mount Murlo.
In the locality of Val di Rose, near the hamlet of Crocicchie, there is the church of “San Niccolò”, where an altarpiece of Raphaelite school painted by Eusebio from San Giorgio (1515) is visible.
In Montecastiglione (800 mt on the sea level) you can admire the view of the Lake Trasimeno and go hiking in the woods, you can visit a beautiful park, equipped for excursions in contact with nature.
Lisciano Niccone excels for its agricultural activities with a production of excellent local products such as cheese, cereals, mushrooms and chestnuts. On 21st March , Saint Benedict –patron of the town - is celebrated, while on 8th December, with the “Festa della Madonna Immacolata”, the co-patron of Lisciano is celebrated.
On July, a traditional summer event is the “Sagra dei Bringoli”, one of the many local culinary specialties of the area.
